Referenda Results – Spring 2007

Due to the way the electronic ballot was implemented the sum of “YES,” “NO” and “ABSTAIN” did not equal the amount of ballots cast. Voters were able to submit their ballots without marking them. If the ballot was not marked but submitted it still counted towards quorum. In the following figures the amount of ballots counted, which go towards quorum will be represented as “VOTED.” “VOTED” also included the “DECLINE THE BALLOT” option, therefore the actual number of votes towards quorum is: “VOTED” minus “DECLINE THE BALLOT” = number of ballots cast.

York University Student Centre

The Student Centre Elections Appeal Committee passed the following resolution on 12 July 2007. The net effect of this resolution nullifies the March 2007 Student Centre Elections. In accordance with YUSC By-Law Number One, the Executive Committee will advertise for interested students to submit their resumes for consideration:

ON MOTION DULY MADE AND SECONDED, the Election Review Committee determined that seeing the evidence presented, it is in the best interest of the integrity of Student Centre elections that the election of March 2007 not be ratified, that the 2 student-at-large positions be declared vacant, and that, acting under the delegated authority of the Board of Directors, the Committee directs the Executive to implement Article 4.6(b), paragraph 2, of By-law Number One and ensure that the Executive recommend candidates for the 2 vacant positions to the Board no later than 31 October 2007.

Inquiries may be made to Hamid Osman, YUSC Chair (chair@yorkstudentcentre.com), or Robert Castle, YUSC Executive Director (rcastle@yorku.ca)
